Some of my migraine triggers are controllable. I can avoid red wine, some times it is hard, but I can do it. I can avoid MSG/wheat containing products. I can control my diet. I cannot avoid emergency vehicles while I am driving. As a passenger I can close my eyes, but as a driver, you have to pay attention.
Yesterday while I was driving from Coastal Seafoods (where I got some wonderful fresh fish for sushi, but that’s another post), and had a firetruck come up from behind. I did okay, because I pulled over and let them pass by. It wasn’t until I met the ambulance that the full blown migraine started.
When I get a migraine, I almost always get an aura. My aura is white light on the right side of my vision. It feels like I have a very fuzzy vision; I don’t know how else to describe it. This aura isn’t good when driving in Minneapolis rush hour traffic after a snowfall.
I quickly took my relpax and was able to make it home. I did break down and have a bottle of regular coke. I didn’t enjoy it like I used to. I don’t plan on having another one any time soon, but it did it’s job. While I didn’t feel great last night, I managed to enjoy our sushi dinner with friends M&M.
Today is a new day. I look forward to not letting my headaches dictate my schedule or my life.
